Katie Deupree
Katie Deupree of Eagle Point, Oregon, is a talented young rider with knowledge of fundamental horsemanship and evaluation skills that travels far beyond her young age. Recently I had the opportunity to invite Katie to teach with me. Though her small stature and her young age were questioned by some of our older students, I was amazed at Katie’s ability to identify so clearly rider’s strengths and weaknesses.
Katie has trained and competed on a variety of horses. Currently, she shares her riding time between Horse Fly, a six year-old 14.3 hand mare that Katie’s family bred, raised and trained, and Oreo. Oreo is a Biankus bred 15 year-old gelding. Horse Fly has been running barrels for about one and one-half years and is rapidly showing the potential to become Katie’s number one horse. Katie enjoys riding, training and competing with her mother Terry, an excellent horsewoman in her own right.
Katie is a member of The American Junior Rodeo Association and The Brand 4-D Association. She is successful as a 4-H competitor, and most impressive, Katie is on the achademic Honor Roll.
