It was a thrill for the Sharon Camarillo Performance Horsemanship Program to be selected as one of the inaugural events for the new University of Hawaii's Equestrian Center at its Hilo campus. One of the few covered arenas on the Big Island, the facility is sure to become the hub of events and clinics for the area.

Pudding Lassiter, talented ranch and arena equestrian, was instrumental in generating interest and funding for the new center. This is our forth year to work with Pudding to bring our program to the Big Island. Mahalo, thank you in Hawaiian, just doesn't do justice to the hospitality and friendship shared by Pudding and her daughter Keala. They inspire all who know them to become better riders and students of horsemanship. Pudding and Keala work together to promote clinics from a variety of disciplines and I am proud to be in their lineup of instructors!

Susan Van Rein, Equine Professor from Sierra College in California, joined me to co-instruct our Hawaiian clinics. We were also asked to be guest lecturers for the Horse Production Class by Professor Julie Ann Luiz Adrian, DVM. It is always rewarding to have the opportunity to help inspire students along their path and Susan's talk on "How Horse's See" was enjoyed by students and guests alike.

Grace Bertelsen from Waimea set the pace for clinic awards by running the fast time in the closing jackpot. Thank you to all our clinic students for their hard work and interest in practicing and perfecting their horsemanship skills for better barrel racing. Good luck to all our students and Mahalo Nui!
