An area enhanced by a strong agricultural and petroleum economy, Alberta, home of the Calgary Stampede, holds a strong allegiance to the sport of rodeo, and barrel racing is certainly alive and well in and about Grand Prairie. Our Fundamentals and Next Level programs, held at Evergreen Park, enjoyed an amazing 80% student return from last year’s programs.

Thank you to our clinic host and sponsor, Melissa Harding, for her tireless support of our program, and to Glenn and Judy Keddie and their son Jeff, for their retail support. It is always and honor to ride and work with our Canadian friends. I am continually reminded of our Canadian brothers' and sisters' competitive tenacity and passion for the sport of barrel racing. Rarely intimidated by distance, weather or competition, Canadian riders work and play hard perfecting their competitive and horsemanship skills.

Next Level and Horsemanship
(Left to Right) Standing: Cheryl Price, Michelle Miller,
Sam Dillworth, Melissa Harding, Sharon, Lauralee Mather,
Delane Peck. Kneeling: Heather Moat, Brooke Hehr, 1D;
Tricia Klingsell, 2D; Wynette Rutt, 3D; Lynn Peck, 4D.

Though horsemanship is my platform, in the big picture, supporting our riders' passions and the sport of barrel racing is the most rewarding part of my job. As an example, one of our newest students, Deanne Foster, comes into barrel racing as a dedicated horsewoman interested in many disciplines. A former professional jockey, Deanne rode racehorses in the states before going into cattle penning and reining, now barrel racing. Representing our next generation of champions, young Brooke Hehr bested riders twice her age to win the 1D title in the Next Level program, and our clinic sponsor, Melissa Harding, is working hard practicing consistent horsemanship that she transfers to each of the nice horses she rides and trains.

Congratulations to all our students. Thanks to each of you for your support and interest in my program. It is an honor to have worked with some of you over the years during my visits to Canada.

Ride safe and smart. Cheryl, Jim and I look forward to seeing you again next year. Contact Melissa Harding or phone (780) 568-3057, for information on our 2009 Grand Prairie Clinics.

Congratulations to these Fast-time Winners!
