One of the most rewarding programs of the year is the Spanish Speaking Performance Horsemanship program held near Gainesville, Texas. Cristina Borregales, and her husband Alvaro Rodiguez, own the Los Altos Ranch and Training Center in Tioga, Texas, and assist me.
Cristina is one of my Performance Team members and is an excellent horsewoman and former Venezuelan Barrel Racing Champion. She and Alvaro host two horsemanship programs each year for children and young adults from a variety of South American countries. Cristina aids her husband in his horse training and sales business, and is a superior co-instructor. Cristina is the interpreter for the program and even I am learning some Spanish!
I admire and love my South American students and friends, not only for their interest to strengthen their horsemanship skills, but also for their wonderful personalities. Many of them come from ranching families and have been raised around livestock. They enjoy technical horsemanship and through the application of skills, are able to pass their understanding to the horses provided them through the Los Saltos Ranch. Cristina and Alvaro have trained many of the horses the students ride. Some of them are young horses and I am always amazed at what the students and the horses are able to get accomplished in a two-day period.
Breeding stock, ranch and performance horses are Alvaro and Cristina’s focus.
