Black Hawk College
Kewanee Clinic Highlights
September 29-30, 2007
We always love coming to Illinois to work with Donna Irvin and her staff at Black Hawk College in Kewanee. This year was no exception. It was a mixed venue from professional riders to beginners, green horses to seasoned. We were glad to see past students and enjoyed celebrating their accomplishments.
We had the pleasure of working with Kelsea Walker, Miss Rodeo Illinois. Kelsea was interested not only in bettering her barrel racing, but strengthening her horsemanship skills for her upcoming Miss Rodeo America Contest. We wish her the best of luck.
Monday we had a special opportunity to do a program for the Equine Science Department. The horsemanship program focused on foundational skills and common injuries of the performance horse. Fun was had by all as Donna and three of her students thrilled the crowd by demonstrating their skills on the barrel pattern. Since barrel racing is my craft and horsemanship is my passion, it is especially inspirational when Cheryl and I have the opportunity to partner with Donna Irvin to deliver equestrian educational programs.
Black Hawk College has a nationally acclaimed equine educational program. The beautiful, well designed facility provides the clinic participants an excellent learning environment with a gorgeous indoor arena and state-of-the-art classrooms.
