Sharon Camarillo and Cheryl Price in Newport

I have been in New England many times as a speaker and clinician at the Massachusetts Equine Affaire, however, this was my first time to take team members Jim and Cheryl Price with me. We had a great time and spent a couple of days looking around Newport, Rhode Island, located just a few miles away from Seekonk, where the clinics were held.

Tracy Brandt, sponsored the program at the Iroquois Ranch, a beautiful New England horse farm. The only thing that was missing? Fall leaves! I always associate the Fall colors with New England. Don’t get me wrong, the Spring is beautiful and daffodils are all in bloom! Tracy and her family are directors of the local National Barrel Horse Association. Richard Pelletier manicured the ground and we experienced some great fun and fast times at the ranch.

One of the highlights of the Seekonk program was the opportunity to have the riders from the clinic involved in an actual filming of a documentary! PBS is in negotiations with writer/producer, Barbara Newman, to do a documentary on the American Cowgirl.

It is an exciting project. I was contacted by Barbara to be a consultant. The documentary will incorporate today’s cowgirl with her sensibility and determination influenced by her historic roots. Since it will focus on the famous and not so famous, Barbara and the New York based crew interviewed several of our students and included highlights of them riding and in competition. It is an exciting project and upon its completion, Barbara hopes to share with the world the courage, strength, wisdom, passion and perseverance that is the American Cowgirl.
