Sharon Camarillo and Susan Van Rein

watchful eye of co-instructor Susan Van Rein.

This clinic addresses horsemanship fundamentals for both the novice and advanced barrel racer. You receive one-on-one coaching and hands-on use of tack and training equipment. Our methodology includes instruction, demonstration, and student participation and practice to help you learn and build your skills.

Specifically, the program:

  • Addresses groundwork techniques and demonstrates effective use of the round pen to create a safe environment for horse and rider.
  • Introduces training equipment and its importance.
  • Provides an evaluation of your own tack and training equipment.
  • Teaches skill-building exercises for the barrel horse.
  • Introduces the Classical Training Pyramid’s six building blocks to achieve efficient barrel racing performance (Rhythm, Suppleness, Contact, Impulsion, Straightness and Collection).
  • Helps each rider achieve a balanced and relaxed body position.
  • Helps each rider understand how to generate a connection with the horse.
  • Introduces techniques to keep the horse moving forward.
  • Assists the rider in identifying strengths and weaknesses in their performance.
  • Provides two video performance evaluations of pattern work for each rider.
