WESTERN CLASSIC 2010 HIGHLIGHTS
Livin' The Wild, Wild West at the Camarillo Western Classic!
The Wild, Wild West, taking the first place
in the Grand Entry Theme contest.
Great competition and a history laden Grand Entry made the 19th annual Sharon Camarillo Western Barrel Racing Classic one of the best Classics to date.
Many contestants honored our 2010 Wild, Wild West theme. Riding a saddle owned by his grandmother, purchased in Wyoming Territory before it became a State, Jim and Meryle Johnston coordinated mountain man and Indian scout costumes to take first place in the Grand Entry Theme Contest. Honorable mentions to Suzanne Koch (below left) wearing another family heirloom dating back to the 1860's, and Native American Angie Quintana (below right), 2003 1D Champion, who hand-made and beaded her authentic outfit! From saloon girls and cowboys to Indian maidens, each and every costume was exciting to see, admired and appreciated.

Not to be overshadowed by the spectacular collection of period and hand-made costumes, a barrel racing dual featuring two National Rodeo Finalists, former Classic Champions and Camarillo Look for the Star in You recipients took place between Nevada cowgirls, Lita Scott and Nina Moore.
1D winner, and In Pursuit of Excellence Fast
Time Award winner Lita Scott on Richard.
Her fastest run time was 17.605.

Lita and her mare Richard set the pace in round one, with Nina and her 18 year-old veteran mare Odie, a close second. In Pro form, Nina claimed first place in round two and the lead in the average. It was down to a thrilling winner take all match in finals round three. A brief stall on Nina's second barrel gave Lita the advantage and the fast time. The Grand Championship and 1D Court's Saddle was won by Lita Scott with a mere one tenth of a second lead in the three run average! To see Lita's winning run on YouTube, click here!
California Cowgirl Suzanne Koch, 71 years-young riding in her 15th Western Classic, won the 2D on Genuine Lil Night. Brenda Pelton-Kibbe on Peppers Tyke won the 3D, and Junior Rider Shyann Harrington and Suzie took the 4D. Congratulations to our Court's Saddlery winners for their consistent performance and to all of our contestants for a great weekend of fast times and competition.
